Background: Here!

Personality:

In a group that is chasing DIO halfway around the world for very personal reasons, Abdul stands out because he is the only one who has not had great injury done to himself or his family by DIO. He is the lucky one in the group who was able to escape his first meeting with the deadly vampire having only been shaken up and not injured or mind-controlled. This lucky escape, though, does not lessen Abdul’s loyalty to the group or his determination to see their goal realized. DIO and his minions must be stopped at all costs for not everyone is as lucky as he was and lightning often strikes twice.

Especially when a person is looking for it.

It is fortunate that Abdul is so devoted to the goal of bringing DIO down because he serves a very important role in the group. Often seeming wise beyond his years, Abdul’s keen observational skills and years of study allow him to guide the group through a great many of the unfamiliar places and situations they stumble into. Joseph may be the oldest in years, but in mind, it is Abdul whose sensibility and experience smoothly carry the group from one place to another. This is most obvious when the group visits India. The busy and chaotic atmosphere is very overwhelming to everyone but Abdul, who finds it comfortable and soothing. It is good he is able to remain grounded in almost any situation, though, because it allows him to focus on the group’s next move or the danger a current Stand User is presenting while others are distracted by new experiences or emotions.

Abdul is far from detached from his emotions, though. As much as he may keep control over himself and his reactions, he is very much like the fire he is so closely linked to. Passionate. Warm. Soothing, but also sharp, dangerous, and ready to blaze out of control when pushed too far. In the early part of the series, it is Polnareff who shows the most skill in pushing Abdul to this breaking point when he foolishly places himself—and the others in the group—in danger by not thinking things through and just reacting on instinct. At one point, Abdul actually has to be restrained so he doesn't hit Polnareff when the Frenchman insists on leaving the group to face J. Geil alone even though it is an obvious trap. However, this violent reaction is not born out of dislike for Polnareff. Instead, it is born out of frustration that the Frenchman is so willing to ignore his advice and common sense to chase after the smallest hope for revenge, an action that Abdul states causes his opinion of Polnareff to drop. An unfortunate side effect to an unfortunate action. One that would easily lead a person to think that Abdul would want no more to do with Polnareff. Yet, not long afterward, it is Abdul who saves Polnareff’s life and nearly loses his own in the process. This action makes it very clear just how far he will go for those he is loyal to.

Of course, there is a good reason that Abdul’s loyalty is so hard to shake. It is not easy to win the trust and loyalty of a man who is as experienced and wary of people as Abdul is. Despite his often warm and open attitude, he knows that any person could end up being an enemy.  It takes a great show of chivalry and will to prove to him otherwise once his suspicions have been raised. During their first battle, while still under the control of DIO’s fleshbud, Polnareff does just that when he refuses to use the knife Abdul gives him to either attack him from behind or kill himself to end his suffering. This great show of chivalry appeals to Abdul, because it is his own sense of chivalry that has set him on this path that leads to DIO. As mentioned before, he has not lost a family member to DIO, nor is he or another family member being hunted by the vampire. Instead, it is his sense of right and wrong that has taken him away from the quiet life of a fortuneteller and cast him into the role of guide to a group determined to do the impossible.

It almost seems like a contradiction that a man so sensible and experienced would allow himself to get caught up in such a dangerous and impossible seeming task, however he throws himself into it with just as much confidence as he does everything else. Abdul is never one to doubt himself or his skills no matter how serious the situation is. Be it fighting Cameo and his Stand while still injured to save Polnareff, figuring out the weakness of N’Doul’s Stand and using it against it to nearly defeat it, or pushing Polnareff out of the way of Vanilla Ice’s attack to make sure one of them has the chance to continue on to face DIO, Abdul never hesitates to do what needs to be done. Not even when that course of action costs him his own life.

Serious. Focused. Wise. Self-Sacrificing. While these are the traits that are most obvious in Abdul, it would be a disservice to him not to mention he can also be quick with a joke or cutting remark. This is especially true after his near death. Whether lighthearted when directed at his fellows or sharp and sarcastic when directed at his enemies, it is obvious that Abdul does have a sense of humor. It just rarer than it is in others and takes more to bring to the surface. In the end, he is a man as complicated as the Tarot card assigned to him, The Magician. Connector of the mystic to the physical, his experience, guidance, and steady foundation make the impossible just a little bit easier to accomplish.

Wish:

As a fortuneteller, Abdul lives his life with one foot in the present and one in the future. He is always looking forward, be it through interpreting the Tarot cards he draws or determining an enemy's next move through their previous actions. The only way he can do this and have the great confidence that he does is because he has a strong belief in fate. People do what they do when they are suppose to and end up at their destination only when they are suppose to be there. The journey is not one many will understand, but even so it is the right path for them at the given time.

So how does this tie into his wish?

Many would think him too sensible to be drawn in by the offer that Kyuubey makes him, but the offer will come to him just as he reaches the end of one path and is looking forward to find out what his new path will be. Is it fate that this creature appears at this exact moment to give him a chance to guide another group of people through an impossible mission? If so, who is he to question the opportunity that has been given to him?

No one. If it is to be, it is to be.  He won't question it, though he does have one request. Or wish as it would be:

"I wish to see the blazing future that my guiding spirit helped Jotaro and the others achieve."

Abdul has no doubt that Jotaro and the others will defeat DIO. It is their fate to complete this task successfully. Hasn't he just given his life to make sure that Polnareff and Iggy can continue on to do so? That is why he does not wish them success. Instead, he would just like to see their success. Believing in fate is one thing; seeing it with your own eyes another. If this creature is giving him a wish in exchange for choosing the path it is offering him, this is what he wants. The words are chosen carefully. One does not make a wish that alters fate lightly, after all.

Be it because of his careful wording or strong belief in the group's success, what would have been a tragic success, becomes something markedly less so. The pendulum shifts, beginning almost at the very moment of Abdul's death. In the split second before he is swallowed by Vanilla Ice's Stand, Abdul's own Stand reacts. Though Polnareff and Iggy will never think it anymore than an instinctive response, Magician's Red lashes out and sets the mansion on fire. Because of the rapidly building smoke and flame, Polnareff and Iggy will be able to more easily track Vanilla Ice as he and his Stand move, leading to his defeat before either the Frenchman or his canine companion are seriously injured. This allows them to rejoin the others faster. The group then makes their way toward DIO, who is caught between a flame and a hot place. Fire can be deadly to a vampire, but the sun--which still has not set--is even more so. He has no choice but to retreat to the tower and stall the group until the sun falls below the horizon.

In typical DIO style, he decides to do this by taunting them with his time stop ability. Despite his current trapped state, DIO still feels he has the advantage, however, he doesn't realize that the groups' confidence is much higher than he thinks since they are mostly uninjured and have only lost one member. Between DIO's repeated taunts, the building smoke, and the overall higher level of confidence in the group, Kakyoin is eventually able to figure out what DIO is doing. This shakes DIO's confidence, but he tries to play it off even as his 'taunts' become more deadly attacks. Unknown to him, he's already tipped his hand too far because Jotaro has put two-and-two together. The next time DIO stops time, he finds much to his dismay, that he is no longer alone. Jotaro can only move in stopped time a second or two at most, but his own higher confidence level allows him to make better use of that freedom. The clashes between DIO and himself eventually cause the fire weakened tower roof to give out only moments before the sun sets, bathing the vampire in the very light he has been trying so hard to avoid.

100 years of bloodstained destiny turns to dust just like that. Dust that is lost amongst the smoke and ash of a fire that was started by the literal manifestation of a dead man's guiding spirit. Or Stand as we like to call them.

The story does not end here, though. When Abdul enters the city, he will be given a candle that does not burn down when lit. After that, once a week he can light it and be granted a vision of the future his fellows live after they leave Cairo. Approximately, a month and a half after his arrival in the city, a very special vision will be granted to him. It will be of his double, who will be found wandering in Cairo, looking for the rest of the group. He will have no memories of anything after setting foot into DIO's mansion and will never know how he survived the Stand attack which should have killed him.

Abdul himself will know, though, as it is--in a very literal way--the core of his wish. The best way to see anything is to be there to see it.

Passive ability: Limited Telekinesis - As a fortuneteller, one of the main ways that Abdul guides people is through Tarot readings. However, it is very difficult to do a Tarot reading without hands to manipulate the cards. To allow him to continue guiding people as he is used to, I would like his passive ability to be limited telekinesis. This power is a different take on the idea of 'guiding spirit.' Instead of meaning his Stand (as it does below), it is literally referencing his role as a guide. The telekinesis is a manifestation of that guiding spirit, replacing the arms he lost when he was attacked by Vanilla Ice's Stand. Because its job is just to replace Abdul's arms, the telekinesis cannot reach out farther than the normal arm length for a man his height (approximately 3 feet to either side of him). It also cannot lift something heavier than a normal man can lift. For example, while he could pick up a book with it, lifting a person would not be possible. He could reach to pick up a letter from a nearby table, but could not reach into the kitchen and get a drink from the refrigerator. Also, as with any new skill, it will take him time to learn how to manipulate his new 'grip.' There are going to be many instances of dropped items in his future, much to his dismay.

Active ability: Fire Summon - Magician's Red, Abdul's 'guiding spirit,' gave him the ability to summon and control fire. In reference to that part of his wish, I would like to have him granted the power to summon fire as his active ability. In the beginning, Abdul will only be able to summon an amount of fire roughly equal to the size of a bowling ball. This can be done via smaller summons or one larger summon, however, should the fire get farther than 6 feet from him without a normal fuel source, it will disappear. Fire that exists without a normal fuel source for longer than five minutes will also vanish no matter how close it is to him. Taking a cue from the series itself, Abdul can be burned by his own flame should he come into direct contact with it. Finally, as he doesn't have the ability to control the fire he summons currently, the only way it can be moved from where it is summoned is by some outside force (wind, another magi etc) or by his own telekinesis (pushing it, throwing it as if he were using his hands to do so).
